A large sinkhole opened up Monday morning on East Indiana Avenue in South Bend, completely blocking traffic.

The pavement collapse was in the 900 block of Indiana Avenue, at the site of a sewage construction project that was already impacting traffic in the area.

Lt. Gene Eyster with the South Bend Police Department told 953 MNC that there were no reports of any accidents or injuries caused by the pavement collapse, and that it was likely a result of the heavy rains from the weekend.

It’s unknown how long the street department will need to repair the problem.
