Change might be coming to a section of U.S. 20, in order to allow for an extended runway for Michigan City’s airport.

There’s talk of extending the runway in order to accommodate more corporate jets landing in Michigan City. The South Bend Tribune says the City’s Common Council, earlier this week, approved spending $444,000 toward engineering costs toward a proposed $9 million project.

It would lower a section of US 20 in order to extend the runway above it.

The idea first needs grant approval from the FAA, which should be requested next September.

Michigan City’s 4,100 runway is too short for most corporate jets to safely land on.
