Two hurt in snowmobile crashes this week in region

Four people were hospitalized this week in separate snowmobile crashes in our area.

Cass County deputies responded to a snowmobile crash that happened on M-217 north of Wayne Street in Porter Township at about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Officers say the driver, a 42-year-old Union man, lost control of his sled and was thrown off it. Both he and his passenger, an 18-year-old woman, were taken to Elkhart General Hospital with leg and wrist injuries respectively.

Meanwhile, one person was seriously injured the day before after crashing a snowmobile in Angola Tuesday.

Steuben County Officers received a 911 call around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday from a man reporting he had been involved in a serious snowmobile crash, according to Fort Wayne’s NBC.

The driver said his passenger was unresponsive following the crash due to her injuries. Emergency services arrived to the scene on Country Road 600 West and flew the passenger to Parkview Regional Medical Center. The driver was also taken to the hospital via EMS.

Both victims were not wearing a helmet, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation.
