Mishawaka child avoids abduction by suspect police seek help finding

(Tom Franklin/95.3 MNC)

Mishawaka police are looking for a suspect who reportedly tried to abduct a child.

A parent called police Wednesday and told them that someone in a red pickup truck tried to lure a child into the truck. The child screamed “stranger alert” three times and ran.

The red pickup truck reportedly had some rust and a busted headlight. The suspect is described as a possible male Hispanic with long black hair and a black beard.

The incident happened near the area of Cedar and Lawrence, and police are asking anyone that was in that area from 3 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday and may have seen what happened to step forward.

Police applaud the child for screaming “stranger alert”, as that’s their preferred tactic for children to avoid being abducted.
