Teenage theft suspects crash and die; two other people critically injured

Two teenagers suspected of stealing from the Meijer store in Warsaw died in a crash while fleeing from police.

The collision happened after 9:20 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 13, near the intersection of U.S. 30 and Parker Street after an Indiana State Police trooper responded to a theft that allegedly had occurred at the Meijer store on Lake City Highway, according to Indiana State Police.

The trooper saw a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it.

The suspect vehicle took off eastbound on U.S. 30 and drove through a red light at the Parker Street intersection, crashing into three other vehicles.

The two occupants of the suspect vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver has been identified as Jacob Slone, 19, of Warsaw. The passenger has been identified as Paige Jefferson, 16 of Warsaw.

Two people in one of the vehicles that was struck were seriously injured and transported to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
