Two inmates at the DuComb Center are now facing charges after another inmate died of an overdose on Christmas Eve.

Cody Woody was found unresponsive in his dorm. Attempts to resuscitate him failed and he was pronounced dead.

Court documents say a fellow inmate reported to the St. Joseph County Drug Investigations Unit two days later that Christopher Susaraba had smuggled heroin in to the center.

The reporting inmate, Alexander Traxler, claims he sent Woody to Susaraba, who had a bunk that was more private from cameras than others. Woody was handed a drug that he wasn’t sure was heroin, but was assured it was, according to court documents.

Roughly an hour later, Woody was found unresponsive. He was found with both meth and fentanyl in his system afterwards.

Both Susaraba and Traxler are charged with dealing in a narcotic drug and trafficking with an inmate.
