There was a celebration over the weekend for a group that was formed to oppose the proposed ICE detention facility in Elkhart County.

Early last week, the for-profit prison company CoreCivic pulled their proposal to build and operate the facility in Elkhart County. Saturday night saw a victory party thrown by the coalition who had organized to argue against the plan.

Richard Aguirre of the anti-dentention center group told the South Bend Tribune that he hopes their efforts in a red county like Elkhart in a red state like Indiana can give hope to others that we might not be as polarized on the subject of immigration as people might think, and that they hope to help support immigrants in other communities.

I guess we shouldn’t detain them, just send them back to their own countries.

All they succeeded in doing was losing Elkhart a few jobs and a construction project.
