The following information regarding post-flood recovery effors was issued by the City of Elkhart:
Over the past 72 hours, Elkhart first responders have been operating at a heightened capacity due to localized flooding impacting homes in multiple locations throughout the city. Since Tuesday evening, first responders have rescued or evacuated over 200 individuals, several of which remain in shelters. These proactive measures by local safety personnel, combined with public cooperation, have resulted in no reported civilian injuries.
Beginning Saturday, Feb. 24, the city will transition to the recovery phase of operations. An initial damage assessment team, comprised of specialized fire personnel, will begin assessing flood damage to residential and commercial properties. This will be the first step to allowing utility companies to reconnect utilities in areas where flood waters no longer pose a threat.
A countywide non-emergency number has been established for residents seeking updates on the flooding and needing to report damage. This number is 574-891-2238. If they have not done so already, property owners should also begin contacting their insurance company as soon as possible to report damages.

- 100 block of North Sixth
- Corner of Nadel Avenue and South Shore Drive
- Michigan Street south of Lexington Avenue
- Socorro Street
- Rockford Street
- Stamp Drive
The City of Goshen lifted it’s Declaration of Emergency on Saturday, Feb. 24. The City of Elkhart lifted it’s emergency declaration on Sunday, Feb. 25.
