Columbia City father, son arrested in drug raid

Indiana State Police arrested a Columbia City father and son with 16 pounds of drugs, guns, and cash after a search on Monday.

ISP and the U.S. Postal Inspector discovered marijuana sent through the mail and tracked the package earlier this month.

Officials found more than 12 pounds of marijuana, 4 pounds of hallucinogenic mushrooms, multiple guns, and more than $14,000 in cash at two properties.

Gerald L. Tyrell, Sr., 54, and Gerald Tyrell, Jr., 29, both of Columbia City, were arrested.

The father faces charges of dealing in a controlled substance, dealing in marijuana, and maintaining a common nuisance. He is held in the Whitley County Jail on a $150,000 bond.

Meanwhile, his son is facing charges of aiding in dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia. He has posted a $15,000 bond.

Both will have initial court hearings on Monday, March 12, in Whitley County.
