Study: Elkhart County residents are healthier than St. Joseph County residents

When it comes to St. Joseph or Elkhart Counties, the results are in as to which residents are more healthy.

The ranking in the annual Robert Wood Johnson Foundation study shows Elkhart ranked 30th of all Indiana counties and St. Joseph County, farther down the list, at 59th.

Factors like clinical care, health behaviors, and physical environment are counted in the study.

When it comes to adult smoking, 20 percent of St. Joe residents light up. Just over 30 percent of adult residents are obese, 25 percent are physically inactive and nearly 20 percent drink excessively.
