Property surrounding Four Winds Field rezoned to spur development

Two more properties around Four Winds Field have been rezoned to entice more development.

The South Bend Common Council voted unanimously to rezone a grassy lot at the northwest corner of Western Avenue and William Street from “general business” to “central business district.”

The South Bend Tribune reports that this means anything built on the property can combine ground-floor storefronts with office and housing space in the upper floors, keeping a future property in line with the nearby Ivy at Berlin Place and other area projects.

A gas station and convenience store was denied building there last year.

The property used to be home to an auto shop before it was demolished and used for South Bend Cubs parking last year.
