FEMA prods Elkhart County flood victims to make claims soon

(Jordan Fouts/Elkhart Truth)

FEMA is preparing to pull out of Elkhart County, and are encouraging flood victims to make their claims soon.

The pull-out could happen as early as next week according to a county recovery task force. Many are worried that snowbirds, currently living in the south, might be coming home to properties that are flood damaged and find that it’s too late for them to make a claim.

The Salvation Army is collecting damage claims, and working with other groups like La Casa and The United Way to help residents navigate the process of getting their homes back to normal.
