Notre Dame Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Brey has voiced his support to this week’s report by a special commission looking into NCAA rules regarding student athletes…

The Commission on College Basketball was led by Notre Dame alum and former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and included Notre Dame President The Reverend John Jenkins.

Wednesday they stated a desire to support a collegiate model that focuses more on the education of student athletes. Coach Brey said “We have to be aggressive with it. If we’re going to do it and do it right, we’re going to have to be aggressive with it.”

Brey maintains that his program has been run cleanly, and the reforms discussed by the commission would help to level the playing field for schools.

Among the reforms the commission recommended was an end to “one and done” players – players who only play one year of college basketball before bolting to the riches and fame of the NBA. Jenkins called this practice an “educational sham.”
