2-year-old child found wandering on South Bend street

The parents of a 2-year-old child who was found wandering in South Bend were located about a few hours after police issued an alert.

Officers with the South Bend Police Department were flagged down in the 2900 block of Bonds Avenue around 3:45 p.m. on Friday, May 4, when the toddler was seen wandering the area. The child was wearing only a shirt and a diaper.

The child was placed in the custody of the Department of Child Services while investigators put the call out in search of the parents and guardians.

Around 7:45 p.m. police issued an update stating that the parents had been contacted. One was out of town and the other at work and that the toddler had been placed in the care of an older sibling
The young child remained with DCS as of Friday night.
