ANGOLA, Ind. (AP) — A Fort Wayne woman who caused a boating accident that injured several people on a northeastern Indiana lake has pleaded guilty to criminal recklessness.
Twenty-one-year-old Dominique M. Effinger pleaded guilty Monday to one count of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.
Her plea agreement calls for a 1 ½-year executed sentence. A Steuben County judge is set to sentence Effinger on Aug. 3.
Effinger was driving a 21-foot motorboat on Lake Gage in July 2017 when the boat went out of control. Ten people, all of whom had been drinking, were thrown from the boat into the lake about 35 miles north of Fort Wayne.
Several people were injured. Two women suffered serious injuries, one with skull fractures and broken bones and the other with an arm injury.
