Two power outages affecting around 5,000 I&M customers in South Bend

UPDATED 8:12 A.M.

More than 4,500 Indiana Michigan Power customers in two separate areas of South Bend were without power on Thursday, July 19.

The first area affected was in an area from south of the Notre Dame campus along South Bend Avenue to Jefferson. The system detected a fault that triggered a breaker around 3:30 a.m. That fault is believed to have been in an underground cable.

Crews are working the problem and hope to have power restored in that area by 10 a.m.

A second, planned outage was reported just before 7 a.m. on the northwest side of South Bend, between Dylan and Sycamore, north and south of the Toll Road.

So far, this week, there have been four major power outages reported in Michiana.
