A former Benton Harbor Public Safety officer accused of hitting a suspect with his police SUV has officially been charged.

Steve Johnson was fired because of the early May incident.

Johnson hit 25-year-old Ron Glover Junior while responding to a report of a stolen lawnmower. Glover was eventually convicted and sentenced to a year in jail.

Both Johnson and Glover appeared this past week in court. In-car video of Johnson hitting Glover with his SUV was shown, along with Glover getting back up and continuing to run.

A judge found the video sufficient enough to charge Johnson with Assault With a Dangerous Weapon. The trial will begin in October.
