A second man has pleaded guilty to his role in what Mishawaka police say was a “drug deal gone bad”.

23-year-old Bryce Dehner pleaded guilty to two battery-related counts, including aggravated battery. He also gets a sentencing enhancement for using a firearm in that aggravated battery count.

He agreed to a plea deal where he cannot be sentenced to more than 20 years on September 20. The South Bend Tribune reports it’s the same deal his accomplice, 24-year-old Austyn Brooks, took. He’ll be sentenced August 27. Austyn Brooks is the son of former Notre Dame and NFL football player Reggie Brooks.

During a drug deal in June 2017, Dehner and 24-year-old Austyn Brooks were part of a marijuana deal at the former KMart in Mishawaka. Court documents say, when the pair realized the money they recieved was fake, they chased the buyers and Brooks fired at them from their vehicle.

One of the buyers and an innocent motorist were hit. Both suffered non-life threatening injuries.
