A Syracuse woman was arrested Monday after allegedly using another woman’s debit card to put money into her boyfriend’s inmate account.

Amber Rae Zollinger, 34, is facing a charge of fraud on a financial institution, a level 5 felony.

On Aug. 1, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Det. Shane Bucher went to a Warsaw bank regarding a reported fraud. The bank’s client protection services manager told him a woman had reported unauthorized transactions on her debit card.

It was determined that the transactions were made to an inmate in Elkhart and Kosciusko county jails, according to court documents filed Aug. 17.

On Aug. 2, the woman told Bucher that the inmate was Zollinger’s boyfriend. She said she had not given consent for the inmate or Zollinger to use her debit card.

Bucher contacted Zollinger, who admitted she made the transactions to the inmate’s jail account.

The bank refunded $347.80 to the woman.
