A big mattress retailer with locations throughout Michiana has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

As part of a major restructuring plan, Mattress Firm will close up to 700 stores in certain markets, specifically those where the company believes they have too many locations too close to each other.

There are five stores in South Bend, Mishawaka and Elkhart and one in Benton Harbor.

An initial group of 200 stores has  been announced. There are three stores that the company plans to close in Indiana on that list. The stores are in Highland, Schererville and Indianapolis. There is one store on the list in Michigan. It is near Lansing.

Decisions about other closings will be made in the next few weeks.

A story like this makes me drowsy. If only there was a place in Michiana that I could get a comfortable mattress at a low price. ZZzzz
