Two local men sentenced in U.S. District Court on drug, weapons charges

It’s 70 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release for an Elkhart man found guilty of possession of meth and heroin with intent to distribute. Julio Sanchez, 48, pleaded guilty of the charges. He was arrested at a South Bend hotel in January and the narcotics were found after a search warrant was obtained. He also had a large amount of cash and a handgun in his vehicle.


A South Bend has been sentenced to 70 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Bernard Pinkerton, 27, pleaded guilty to the charge, and will also face a year of supervised release after he serves his time behind bars. He was arrested in June while driving a stolen car with a friend. In that car were drugs and paraphernalia, $1,100 cash, and a stolen 9mm handgun. Pinkerton confessed to possessing the gun and drugs.
