Man killed in LaPorte house fire on Tuesday morning identified

A man died in a house fire in LaPorte.

Crews responded to the home in the 600 block of 4th Street shortly after 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22.

Melvin Peek, 58, died in the blaze.

Fire Chief Andy Snyder said there were no other occupants in the house at the time of the fire.

The State Fire Marshall’s Office has been called in to help with the investigation due to the fatality.
