CHESTERTON, Ind. (AP) — The South Shore Line commuter railroad says it won’t operate trains on Saturday because Metra in Chicago announced it needs more time to address damage caused by a freight train derailment and the impacts from the extremely cold weather.

Saturday will mark the fourth straight day of suspended service on the line between Chicago and South Bend because of the severe cold.

The line says it expects to restore service on Sunday, but that isn’t certain.

It says it will operate test trains Saturday to assess track and wire conditions. These trains will not carry passengers.
