Chesterton woman hurt in hit-and-run collision on I-80/94

A Chesterton woman suffered head trauma when her car was involved in a hit and run causing her vehicle to roll over four times.

The collision happened around 6:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 5, on on westbound I-80/94 at Ripley Street.

The 1999 Ford Explorer, driven by the 39-year-old Chesterton woman was in the left lane when a white Kia who was in the middle lane attempted to change lanes to the left.  The Kia sideswiped the Ford causing the Explorer to lose control.  The Ford went off the roadway into the concrete median barrier wall head-on and then rolled over approximately four times.

The woman’s passenger, a 28 year old man from Chesterton, was not hurt.  Long had head trauma and was transported to North Lake Methodist Hospital.

The white Kia continued traveling westbound.

As of mid-Tuesday afternoon, there was no word of any suspects or arrests.
