St. Joseph County Council postponed vote on proposed property tax hike

The St. Joseph County Council postponed a vote on a proposed property tax hike for next year.

The South Bend Tribune reports that several council members say they need more information.

The rate hike could result in an estimated increase of $5 – $14 for homeowners whose taxes aren’t capped.

That money would be used to cover capital needs such as IT equipment, computers, police cars and building repairs.

The council plans to discuss the rate hike further at its next meeting.
