From political stumping to pothole crack sealing, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg took to Facebook Live, Tuesday morning, to demonstrate how city crews seal asphalt cracks, preventing them from turning into potholes.

Buttigieg joined street department crews on Edison Avenue between Sample St. and Ford St. to show how asphalt crack sealing works and explain why it’s an important preventative measure in road maintenance.

The mayor said four additional staffers were hired this year and with the added resources, the city  expects to seal about 40 miles of roads this year. Last year, crews sealed about 14 miles of roads.

Anybody who drives on a South Bend road that is plagued with cracks, gaps or potholes, can call 3-1-1 to report it.
