Elkhart’s Board of Public Safety voted Monday morning to place two police officers on unpaid administrative leave.

The unanimous vote took place at a special meeting that was held at 9 a.m. It establishes a change in the pay status of Elkhart Police officers Cory Newland and Joshua Titus to unpaid administrative leave.

The two have been on paid administrative leave since November.

This change comes on the heels of the two officers being indicted by a federal grand jury on March 22 of civil rights violations in connection with allegations that they used excessive force against a man who was handcuffed and seated. That incident was captured on video.

Both men will appear in court again on April 4.
