Michigan seeks to make it easier for college students to vote

Michigan’s Secretary of State announced steps last week to promote voter participation among college-aged Michiganders.

Secretary Jocelyn Benson says the steps are part of a broader voter engagement effort, aimed at resolving a lawsuit that was brought on behalf of several student voting groups last year.

Benson says going away to school shouldn’t complicate a student’s ability to vote, and added that Michigan has made recent strides in improving voter access for students.

The state says a big push to engage college-age voters will made before the 2020 election.
