Cass County Police: Boy, 15, shoots father in self-defense

A 15-year-old boy shot his father in an apparent case of self-defense.

It happened around 10 p.m. on Friday, June 21, in the 62000 block of Cass Avenue in Vandalia.

A 911 call from the residence reported that a man had shot. After officers arrived on scene, first aid was immediately given to the 37-year-old man who suffered a gunshot to his abdomen.

The man was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital where he was last listed in critical but stable condition.

Investigation showed that during a domestic altercation, the man’s 15-year-old son shot him in self defense and the defense of another.

No charges are being sought for the teenager at this time.

The case still remains under investigation.
