The Recruiting and Training Bureau of the South Bend Police Department will host an open house for people interested in a career in the department.

The police open house will be held Saturday at the South Bend Fire Department Training Center on East Sample Street from 9 to 11 a.m.

The deadline for applicants is August 12, and Chief Scott Ruszkowski says the Department has taken a number of steps to increase the applicant pool of qualified candidates. Those steps include the open house event, practice tests, and an online application.
