An 7-year-old Niles boy died during a birthday party.

It happened on Saturday, July 20, when the boy, identified as Ayden Smith, somehow fell or slipped into the water.

The child’s father told 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57, his son was at his side and the next thing he knew, the boy was in the water.

CPR was administered, but Smith was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A vigil is planned for 7 p.m. on Monday, July 22, at the Brandywine Cal Ripken fields in Niles, ABC 57 reported.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral costs.
