UPDATE: The fire at the former tire factory location rekindled Monday morning around 5:50 a.m. according to SBFD officials.

For the second time in as many weeks, smoke plumes from a fire wafted thousands of feet into the sky above South Bend.

The blaze, at a former tire factory, in the 1800 block of S. Franklin Street, started around 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.

The fire caused a building to collapse and the spread to two other buildings, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

There was nobody inside the buildings, according to ABC 57.

There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire.

A fire on Friday, July 26, at the Fun F/X warehouse on Sample Street near Chapin also caused huge smoke plumes that could be seen for miles. The cause of that blaze is still under investigation.
