Candidates for Benton Harbor Mayor set after Primary vote

The candidates are now set for the General Election this fall as Benton Harbor gets ready to select a mayor.

Tuesday’s primary whittled the field of candidates down to City Commissioner-At-Large Ron Singleton, and incumbent mayor Marcus Muhammad. They outlasted the other four candidates vying for the chance to take the city’s top spot in November.

During the primary process the discussion among the candidates was dominated by roads and other infrastructure, clean drinking water, and of course Benton Harbor’s embattled education system.

There were 681 votes cast, with Mayor Muhammad receiving 57% and Singleton finishing with 31%.

If reelected, the mayor would win his second term.
