(AP) – A northern Indiana city has installed surveillance cameras along its network of recreation trails to help make them safer for users.

Ten state-of-the-art security cameras were installed in June along the city of Logansport’s four community trails.

The Pharos-Tribune reports that a survey taken last year found that 91 percent of the public in Logansport supported installing cameras along the trails.

Those trails are also getting stainless steel markers with a numbering system that will help users know their location along each trail.

The city about 70 miles (115 kilometers) north of Indianapolis also provides police bicycle patrols along its trails during the warm-weather months.

Logansport deputy mayor Mercedes Brugh says the various trail-security efforts aim “to make our trails, parks and city safer.”
