Police: Dowagiac woman injured after falling asleep, colliding with semi

A Dowagiac woman is recovering after falling asleep while driving and crashing into a semi.

The collision happened around 9 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, on M-60 near Bair Lake St, Newberg Township in Cass County, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

The 22-year-old woman driving the car was returning home from work at the time.

The semi, driven by a 61-year-old man from Know, was making a delivery in the Jones, Michigan area.

The woman told police she fell asleep and struck the truck, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office stated.

The semi driver tried to avoid the crash by moving to the right as much as possible, without success.

The woman wastransported from the scene to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo for treatment.
