Elkhart’s Fire Chief is resigning

The decision was confirmed by Mayor Tim Neese’s Chief of Staff.

A formal announcement should be coming soon. Chief Chad Carey is leaving to follow an opportunity elsewhere, though he can’t say where right now. Since Neese is leaving office Carey’s job would not have been guaranteed at the end of term anyway, and it’s common for appointments to resign in situations like this to go elsewhere.

The Elkhart Truth reports that in the interim Assistant Chief Steve Kamp will hold the position.
