A high speed pursuit in St. Joseph County, Michigan could have ended very tragically early Monday morning.

Police say there were two children in the car, and speeds reached over 100mph. It started with an attempted traffic stop on US 131 in Park township. Officers at one point had to deploy stop sticks.

Apparently after police lost sight the couple crashed their car into a ditch on Shaffer Road, and then walked to a nearby home; where residents reported to police a couple with children had showed up wet and asking for help. Both of the suspects were from Edwardsburg.

The couple is facing preliminary charges of fleeing, resisting, and child abuse.
