A suspect has been identified in the attempted kidnapping incident that took place last week at a car wash parking lot.

It was on Thursday night, Dec. 5, when a mother told Elkhart Police a man in a van offered candy to her children.

It happened in the 26000 block of South Nappanee Street.

The woman described the man as between 60 and 70 years old and driving a 1990’s van.

She said he took off after she yelled at him.

Elkhart Police say the suspect has a documented, clinically diagnosed case of mental illness.

They are now working with the suspect’s family to get him re-assessed, and get him the services that he needs.
