Suspect in 15-hour long standoff, hostage situation arraigned

The man who surrendered to police after a 15 hour standoff and hostage situation in Niles township has been arraigned.

Adam John Neiman, 41, of Niles, faces kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment, 2nd degree child abuse, resisting and obstructing and several weapons charges.

He’s being held without bond. The situation began on Wednesday, Jan. 8, when police attempted to serve a warrant on Neiman, who was wanted in LaPorte County.

Around 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, Neiman walked out of the home he was holed up in on Redfield Road near Ironwood.

That happened a couple of hours after he released a 5-year-old child who investigators say he took hostage.

A second person connected to the incident, Clemie Brandy Jean Chapman, 41, is also charged with resisting and obstructing.
