Trump acquitted despite Senator Romney’s break from GOP to impeach

Mitt Romney voted to convict President Donald Trump of Article 1: Abuse of Power.

That made the GOP senator from Utah the only Republican in the Senate’s impeachment trial who broke ranks and favor removing Trump from office.

Despite his vote, President Trump was acquitted of both articles of impeachment against him: Abuse of Power and Obstruction of Congress.

Romney was his party’s 2012 presidential nominee, and he’s clashed often with Trump.

Romney says he believes Trump was guilty of “an appalling abuse of public trust” when Trump pressured Ukraine’s leaders to investigate Democratic rival Joe Biden.

67 votes would have been required to remove the president.
