Michigan lawmakers vote to extend emergency declaration in pandemic

Michigan’s GOP-led Michigan Legislature has extended Democratic Gov. Whitmer’s coronavirus emergency declaration to April 30.

That’s an extension of 23 days, instead of adopting the 70-day extension she sought into mid-June.

Michigan has the third most cases of any state in the nation, according to the Detroit News.

GOP leaders said they had to act quickly because the declaration was set to expire Tuesday, but Democrats say it wasn’t going to lapse because a new emergency declaration was included in a declaration she made last week.
