Michigan says that despite recent system crashes, a majority of people filing for unemployment in the state have gotten paid.

Unemployed Michiganders have received $1.3 billion dollars in benefits since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis.

Roughly 820,000 of the 1.1 million people who have filed have received benefits, representing nearly 70 percent. Another 134,000 workers filed in the week ending April 18.

Nearly one quarter of the state’s workforce has filed. Before the pandemic, the weekly record for claims was 77,000 during the recession, with an average around 5,000.
