Alcohol and drugs may be factors in a deadly crash in Cass County.

The collision happened around 6:20 a.m. on Saturday, May 30, on Church Street, east of Lawrence Road in Volinia Township.

The initial investigation shows that an eastbound vehicle on Church Street lost control and flipped into a tree, trapping three people inside the vehicle.

Michael Mortimore, 21, of Dowagiac, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another passenger and the driver were taken to the hospital.

Deputies were assisted on scene by Dowagiac City Fire Dept., Wayne Twp. Fire Dept., Marcellus Fire and Ambulance, Pride Care Ambulance and AirCare.
