(95.3 MNC)

One person has died, and another is facing charges, after a crash in Niles early Wednesday morning.

Police were first dispatched to St. Joseph Valley Parkway, near mile marker 6, on reports of a dark-colored SUV heading northbound while driving in the southbound lanes.

Officers were then informed of a head-on crash just down the road, at mile marker 9, which involved the SUV.

When police arrived to the scene, they found a 29-year-old woman standing outside of her GMC Arcadia.

The driver of a Ford Fusion was also found ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified as Darnell Johnson, 28 of Benton Harbor.

The driver of the Arcadia was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. She’s facing a potential charge of Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death.

A preliminary investigation reveals alcohol consumption was a contributing factor to the crash.
