Coronavirus support scam reported at Indiana University

There’s a potential coronavirus support scam making its way around Indiana University, said the university’s police department.

IUPD shared a screenshot on Twitter on Wednesday, of an email that asks you to register for an “IU COVID-19 Giveaway.” It says its from a coronavirus support team, and that the university will give all eligible faculty, staff and students $720 to help them during the pandemic.

Police are asking you not to click the link, like the email asks and to not submit any personal information.

If you get one of the emails, or a similar email, IUPD says to forward it to phishing@iu.edu, and asks you, “treat this like COVID, distance yourself.”
