The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation of a beating that has now turned deadly.

The suspect, Kevin Michael Rose, 39, was charged with aggravated battery, battery by means of a deadly weapon and battery resulting in serious bodily injury after finding the victim, David Gill, 46, with a woman he had dated at a home in the 300 block of West Marion Street in Mishawaka. That was back on Sep. 28.

Gill died on Monday, Oct. 5, due to blunt force trauma. The coroner has now ruled his death a homicide, so Metro Homicide will pass on its findings to the County Prosecutor who will adjust the charges as the legal system sees fit.
