South Bend man arrested on drug charges after police chase and crash

A South Bend man faces gun and drug charges after leading police on a chase.

It happened around 12 p.m. on Sunday, oct. 18, when a state trooper tried to pull over a car for a traffic violation on the southwest side of the city, near State Road 23. Instead, the car took off. The chase didn’t take long though, as the car crashed into a concrete barrier.

The passenger, a male teenager, tried to run away, but police were able to catch him. The driver, 18-year-old Michael Winston, was arrested.

Inside the car, police found marijuana, meth, and a loaded handgun.

Winston faces charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of and dealing marijuana and meth.

The prosecutor’s office is still determining if the teenager will face any charges.
