Several crashes under investigation in Elkhart County

The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is conducting investigations into several weekend crashes.

One of the collisions happened around 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the intersection of County Roads 46 and 25 when when an Elkhart man driving a pick-up truck failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection and struck another pick-up truck.

as called to the scene of a multiple vehicle crash at the intersection of County Roads 46 and 25 Saturday afternoon just before 2 p.m.

The driver of the pick-up truck that was hit and his three passengers, which included two  children, received non-life-threating injuries.

 

A 10-year-old child was injured after being struck by a vehicle. The collision happened around 2:40 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, on Driftwood Drive, about 1 mile west of the Elkhart city limits.

A 70-year-old Elkhart woman was driving on Driftwood when the child can across the road in front of his home, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office. The child was struck by the vehicle’s passenger side mirror.

He was taken to the hospital for treatment of leg pain and he lost a tooth, but will be okay.

 

A 20-year-old Goshen man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on U.S. 33.

The collision happened just before 7 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, near County Road 33.

Jonas Garcia was driving a 2004 Chevy Tracker north on U.S. 33 when he left the roadway, over-corrected, then crossed the center line and rolled the vehicle, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office.

Garcia was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
