Counties in Michigan are responding to the nationwide surge in COVID-19 cases by urging people to do their own contact tracing more efficiently.

In Berrien County, officials are now urging people to make notifications to their closest contacts in the event that they test positive for the virus. The county has seen such an increase in cases that it can’t keep up and will now be prioritizing certain cases for contact tracing.

Cass County is also encouraging people to do their own contact tracing, saying that even with extra help their capacity has been reached and some people may not receive a call from the health department if they test positive.

Officials everywhere are urging people to take this second wave seriously, and follow personal protection and social distancing protocols, including wearing a mask.
