Search for drugs halted in Cass County due to discovery of explosive device

Two people in Cass County were arrested after a drug bust that had to come to a sudden end when police stumbled upon an explosive device.

The bust happened Friday at a home in the 70000 block of Irving Drive in Ontwa Township.

Armed with a search warrant, detectives detained two individuals and, conducting their search, located an Improvised Explosive Device.

They halted the search, advised neighbors to evacuate and waited until the bomb squad was able to make the residence safe.

Afterward, detectives resumed searching the residence and located a large amount of methamphetamine, meth paraphernalia and a firearm.

A 44-year-old man was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, delivery of methamphetamine, possession of a dangerous weapon and felony firearm.

A 33-year-old woman was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.

The suspects’ names are being withheld pending arraignment on the charges in the 4th district court.
